Energy and water, record attacks on critical infrastructure: the new frontier of cyber defence

According to the latest dossier of the Viminale, from 1 January 2023 to 31 July 2024 more than 19 thousand cyber-attacks were detected in Italy, for an average of 33.5 offensive attacks per day. The close interdependence between critical infrastructures – primarily water and energy – and the information systems now used in all areas is a particular concern.
Artificial Intelligence is a useful resource to manage the situation. Cybersecurity companies are already largely implementing AI in their computing solutions.
